DENIS SPORTS PROTECTOR PLAN

The Denis Sports Protector Plan is an insurance policy offering financial benefits for defined accidents or injuries on the rugby field during either a match or practice session.

The Sports Protector Plan was launched by Denis Insurance (Denis), an Authorised Financial Services Provider, in October last year. Denis is the largest independent dental claims administrator in South Africa - covering 1.5 million lives in dental benefits and processing over 100 000 dental claims monthly.

The Denis Sports Protector Plan provides cover for five categories of dental injuries, whilst Momentum has underwritten a R100 000 benefit for catastrophic injury (brain and spinal) with Life Cover of R100 000 for any accident on or off the field.

In recognising the importance of player safety and the prevention of serious injuries SARPA has taken out cover for all of its members for the 2009 season.

The Denis Sports Protector Plan has been developed specifically for contact sports such as rugby and is endorsed by both the South African Rugby Players' Association (SARPA) and the South African Rugby Union (SARU).

The Plan costs less than R 600 per year, which includes a free professional, custom-made Denis Mouth Guard.

Insurance has become a key necessity for professional rugby players. The Denis Sports Protector Plan addresses a very specific niche by providing cover for dental and catastrophic injuries. It is perfectly suited for professionals as well as for players at schools and club level, because it is very affordable.

Blue Bulls and Springbok lock forward Victor Matfield has been engaged by Denis to act as its rugby ambassador for the Denis Sports Protector Plan. Speaking at the launch of the product in 2008, Matfield said the fact that the Denis Sports Protector Plan comes with a free professional mouth guard would go a long way towards improving rugby safety.

"Statistics show that wearing a mouth guard reduces the risk of injury. The Denis Sports Protector Plan will improve injury prevention and play a significant part in promoting and growing rugby throughout South Africa by giving players and parents' peace of mind," Matfield said.

  • Fractured tooth Root canal & crown - R3000 per tooth

  • Tooth knocked out, Implant or bridge - R5000 per event
  • Jaw fracture Surgery - R15000 per event
  • Life/Accident Cover - R100 000
